WELCOME TO THE HYDRO - LATIN AMERICA 2009 WORKSPACE
Dear students,
I would like to welcome you in this academic initiative on behalf of many different institutions (EuroAquae group, UPC, PUC, FICH-UNL, UFRJ) that had worked hard to organize this event in Santiago de Chile. We consider that during these days in Chile and during the previous weeks, you try to work in a different way as we are used to do traditionally at universities. Students should become to be more active in concept of "learning by doing" so in this way we propose you to solve a real problem of a sewer network with some flood problems.
The course project deals with the flood problems at the Riereta catchment and proposal for solution using modern Hydroinformatics methods and tools. The goal of this case study is the evaluation of the actual conditions and solutions to avoid flood problems.
The project has several main tasks (work pakages):
- Simulation of Riereta catchment with EPA SWMM 5.0
- Calibration/Validation of simulations results by measurement data
- Discuss and propose alternative solutions for flood prevention in the urban catchment
- Reporting of all project work as Web documents
